Pawpaw

Bibbi April 2, 2012

A pawpaw is a fruit indigenous to North America, also called thesweetsop or the prairie banana. Though the name pawpaw may have originated from the Spanish term papaya, these two fruits are not related. The trees that grow the pawpaw are the largest Native American fruit trees, ranging in height from 16 to 32 feet (5.44-9.75 m).

The deciduous pawpaw tree blooms in early spring. The small blooms are deep violet in color. Following the spring blooming, leaves begin to sprout that appear almost out of place in their native environment. They are dark green and shiny, resembling the leaves of many tropical plants, though they turn golden in fall. The pawpaw tree is often chosen for landscapingbecause deer tend to avoid eating the leaves.

There are detractors and supporters of the pawpaw. There are also multiple interpretations of what a pawpaw tastes like. Some people compare the taste to a cross between vanilla and bananas. Others think it more resembles a mix of banana and mango.

Benefits of Pawpaw

As it has already been mentioned, paw-paw has an important role in digestion. It makes digestion of any kind of foods much easier, and it is quite easily digested itself. While regulating digestion itself, it also prevents any of the possible digestion issues such as bloating, chronic indigestion and constipation, which provokes problems with bowel movements. Along with helping digestion, paw-paw also forces any worms out of the body and treats stomach ulcer.

Paw-paw is also very good for the skin because of the amount of vitamin A it contains, and not only does it make the skin soft and tight, but it also deals with skin disorders such as acne, pimples and eczema. The vitamin A in paw-paw is also good for the eyesight, muscles, and nerves.

Besides getting rid of acne and similar skin conditions, applying paw-paw to any part of the body and then performing a massage on it, will help the blood circulation and enable it to reach areas affected with cellulite, leaving a surprisingly effective and positive result.

The form in which paw-paw is used for both the treatment of the before-mentioned skin conditions and reduction of cellulite is freshly squeezed and mixed and blended with yogurt, after its seeds have been removed. Its effect is even better when the mixture is covered with cellophane tape.

Finally, the vitamin C in paw-paw fruit reinforces the entire immune system and gives the body the support that is required to overcome many diseases.
